“WOW” moments.
You know when you have these moments when you just look at the world and its like “wow”. Thats not very articulate of me, let me explain.
If you say a word over and over again it looses all meaning. Taste, Taste, taste, taste, taste, taste. Its like you are a foreigner, looking at your own language. You just think, ‘That isn’t a word, its just a really weird combination of noises‘. You just drop everything you have learnt and all the understandings you have developed in your time on earth and its like seeing the word for the first time. Like your a toddler or a Japanese tourist, or someone recovering from amnesia.
I have those same “wow” moments about people as well. I look at someone i have known for a long time, and its like i have forgotten to really look at them. And if i look closely its like they are this person i never really knew was there. They look different to how i always imagined they were.
Well I have these “wow” moments, but not just about words and people, but about everything.
Like skin. Think about Skin. You see people every day, but do you ever stop and think “wow” all of these people walking around are just bones and organs and veins and they are all wrapped up in this giant bag of skinnnn. It is bizzare and surreal. If we didn’t have skin we would all fall apart. Feel your arm, feel the muscles and bones underneath it all, then pull on this skin… its weird. I am typing with fingers right now. But they arn’t fingers, they are these sticky bones and when i think things my brain pulls on the fleshy muscles on them to yank them to click the right keys. BIZARRE. And lets think about fingers please. they are WEIRD. like baby arms sprouting off a mother arm! and if you think about foots, what are they? its like your leg has just been twisted out to the side. if you really think about how you are walking on a wonked out piece of leg it can feel really gross.![]()
What about clouds? seriously, what is with that? they are fluffy balls of water? are you joking? water is flying? are you crazy? do you reaaaaally believe that water is flying around in the air? that is impossible!!! And the earth is round. are you kidding me? we would all fall off! look! i’m standing on the ground and it is FLAT! how can anyone believe that the earth is round? it is insane. It is unbelievable. it is impossible. And with that in mind, lye on the ground at night and stare out at the night sky and look at the stars and think this: you are lying on the side of the world. there is nothing between you and space. you could just fall off. gravity is the only thing keeping you on this crazy planet, and what if you fell off it?
We just take EVERYTHING for granted because its all around us all the time. But if you look at things from a fresh perspective, REALLY look at something. Its just WOW, that is AMAZING. Everything is AMAZING. A RAINBOW is freaking AMAZING. How the hell dose that happen!?! Light reflecting through a billion tiny spores of water, HOW dose that happen, HOW can light work out to be a rainbow? That is amazing. EVERYTHING is amazing. Wood is AMAZING. Ground is amazing. What about grass? I CANNOT believe in grass, its like zillions of tiny weird trees. Its like natures carpet. How blessed am I to have GRASS? Grass is possibly the best thing that has EVER happened to me and i dont even care! i just want to run outside and stroke the grass!
Everything is impossible. If you really look at this crazy world it is insane, biazare. I write stories about floating islands, and people that grow off trees and four armed blue skinned tribal people but none of that is as INSANE as this world we are living in! I simply cannot get over how freaking unbelievable it is. The English language dose not have the words to
describe how in awe i am.
This is why i can never accept evolution. I am never going to believe that all of this just created itself. This world is sooooo amazing, so in tune, so perfect. I cannot believe that every species is so perfectly linked with the next, that this whole world is so perfectly unbelievably designed. And don’t even get me started on space. God has to have done this. I haven’t even licked the top of this iceberg. This whole world is amazing. Breathing in and out is amazing. each wrinkle fascinates me. I wish i could live my whole life from this perspective. Wooooooooooow. Well. Thats my “wow” moment.

That’s pretty cool rhysy.
A lot of those things I’ve realised before, but you forget don’t you? I like the grass thing though. It’s totally true. You lay on the grass and you look right down at it, your eyes only millimetres away. And you see a jungle of vines and stalks, and the ants marching through and there’s dirt on the bottom and it’s another world.
Thank you for reminding me of the wow!!!
I seriously adore the way you think
Alot of what you say i can relate with - and what not. Although i think we would all get lost if we lived like this the whole time, fascinated by every little thing every second of the day. Like when you are driving in a car to get somewhere, your eyes make the outside seem blurry so that we don’t have to look at everything that goes by and understand exactly what it is - if we did this our heads probably would explode with information - who needs to know exactly how many trees we have passed and what texture the bark is on them, and whether a squirrel has been gnawing on it (just a reminder that i am infact in England) when all i want to do is get to the movies in my car! Sure ‘the journey is more important than the destination’ - what ever! Perhaps it can be - but perhaps i am a fire fighter racing to put out your home!!!! would you say that the journey is more important then??!?!?!?!?! No - but you didn’t say that it was in the first place - thus its a bit of a moot point isn’t it…
