Eat Life Slowly
Many people don’t know how to EAT a banana. They just chomp it down and its gone in seconds. They barely even taste it and then it’s as if the banana never existed. This is how you are suppost to eat a banana:
PLACE the banana on the lawn and pretend to forget where it is. IMAGINE that you are stranded on a deserted island. You haven’t had any food for days. Your starving. Then pretend to DISCOVER the banana (oh! what a surprise!). Cautiously APPROACH. (It might be a trap!) Pick it up! MARVEL at the texture of its skin. With trembling fingers slowly PEEL the banana as if it is a holy shrine. Take a BITE and hold it in your mouth for as long as possible, slowly ROLLing it around your tounge, describing the flavour, savouring every moment. HOLD the banana up to the sunlight and watch the sun glistening on its surface. THINK about the precious vitamins that this fruit contains. WONDER about its shape and how marvellous the process of fruit growing is. KNOW this might be the last thing you will ever taste. FINISH it. But don’t just toss the skin away! FEEL its soft surface. Hold it up to your face and FEEL how it holds so much coldness inside.
Theory: Life is a banquet laid out on a table. It will take a long time to eat, a life time actually. Some people are given better banquets than others. Billy has a steaming hot Harvard education drissled with sticky honorary awards while Sally has a bitter dysfunctional home-life to swallow. Well stop complaining because some people don’t have anything to eat at all! They are dead! My point is, you should: Eat life slowly.
Every Second of life you experience is like a mouthful of banana. You can just chomp it away while thinking about other stuff, or you can chew slowly, rolling around in your mouth, appreciating how lucky you are to have this fruit. So when you are walking along, don’t just gulp life down in big bites, feel the grass between you toes, stop and feel the air on your face, appreciate the country you where born in, your family, the opportunity’s you have. Draw out and savor every flavour life has to offer you.
I was once eating pizza with an friend. It was like he was BREATHING the pizza. He would take a deep (breath/bite) of pizza. A few chews and then a gulp. And another deep (breath/bite) of pizza. He managed to eat his 3 pieces of pizza before I finished my first. I would take smaller bites. Chew slowly. He might have had more than me in the end, but I EXPERIENCED more pizza then him.
We should eat life slowly, and food is a part of life and we should eat that slowly too. If you eat really quickly then by the time your metabolism has kicked in to say “hey, I’m full” you’ve already eaten too much food. If you eat slowly then you eat less food, but you still feel just as full.

AH! I never knew there could be so many fantastic ways to eat a banana! I am eating a large plate of food right now, and I am looking at it with a new appreciation.
How many interesting ways are there to eat tofu?
every post of yours makes me smile, not just because i love the way you write or the topics you write about, but because i recognise such similarities in the way we both think
haha, Janessa, there are NO interesting ways to eat Tofu. just ways to play with/burn it.
Thanks Gem! we are in the same vein of thought! This post is very much like “How to live in the moment” thing you wrote! We are so intelligent!
First, you force him to drop the banana.
Then, you eat the banana, thus dissabling him!
=P
What a great, memorable metaphor! I am glad I read this today
Good! This is the way we should eat all food.
A number of studies confirm that just by eating slower, you’ll consume fewer calories.
