Micronations
This is my new obsession. Micronations. They are allll the rage.
WHAT is a micronation: They are the coolest things ever! Basically some entrepreneurial person (you?) decides to create their own nation. It might be in your bedroom, on your property, on an island or a street corner. You could even make a cyber nation with no actual land, which is kinda trippy. Micronations are all very different from one another but the common link seems to be that they would like to be officially recognized as a sovereign nation. Some make their own passports and stamps, currency or even language! There are huge micronations with 1000’s of citizens and then there are ones with 1 or 2 members.
Why do people become micronationalists: There are LOTS of reasons why people take the step to create their own nation. Some of them are serious pursuits. The founding members are trying to make some statement about society or are test running a political/ economical/ social theory. Other people do it as a creative exercise… because they can. Some people do it as a publicity stunt, and others as a serious act of succession from their government!
How I create my own micronation: There are no rules for creating your own micronation! Thats the best thing about it. It is pure creativity channeled into one word “nation”. whatever comes out at the other end depends on your imagination and coolness! But if your not the sort who likes to be thrown into the deep end of the pool of possibilitys, then here is a great site that will guild you into the shallow end of the micronation pool and encourage you to paddle out on your own!
Also i really recomend that you visit the offical micronations website which has all the micronation info you could ever need. Wikipedia also has a really comprehensive article onmicronations which was basiclly cut and pasted from other sites :z
Also, one note before I leave you to your brainstorming. Apparently Australia has a freakishly high percentage of micronationalists!?! Do we perhaps have such a horrible government that everyone is trying to get out any way they can? Or is our nation a cradle for innovative philanthropists? (maybe its in the water?)
….I’m off, to make my own micronation!
