Star gazing last saturday night.

Do you know what is awesome? Climbing Mt Coolum at night with some sleeping bags and a few friends. Staring at the stars and moonlit clouds and the lights of little people below us.

Why did we do it?
Because we are young.
because life is short.
because adventure is sitting around waiting for someone to hug it.
because we can.
because there is no reason not to.
Because it is the middle of winter.
because it is cold and dark and dangerous.
because this is what life is about.
because fun is fun.
because we haven’t done it before.
Because we are OBLIGATED to suck every good thing out of this life time, and to sit at home watching television is lazy and irresponsible and criminal and wrong.
And because we owe it to ourselves to come alive.
because we deserve to come alive.
no, not just exist, actually live.

This is what I am all about nowadays - actually living.

And here is something I have learnt - you cant wait for other people to organize mountain climbing star gazing adventures. Sometimes they will, but most of the time they wont. I will go out on a generalizing limb here and say that MOST PEOPLE, 95% of people, are not the people who get up and MAKE STUFF HAPPEN. That means if i rely on other people to make stuff happen, there is only a 5% chance that stuff will… happen. I don’t like those odds. I think I am going to have to rely on myself. I think I am going to have to get some initiative and make life worth it. ok? ok, lets do that.

Perhaps if you look at this post after you have read your previous one it might appear that perhaps you just climbed the mountain and stargazed because it sounds romantic when you tell other people, and most people don’t do it so there fore it is unique and different.
Why is sitting at home watching tv wrong and criminal? Perhaps it is something that someone and their family have in common with each other and provides a time to bond? It is something that passes the time and is in no way less productive than climbing a mountain and looking at the stars.
this view just seems a bit arrogent and close minded, that this is the only way to live a proper life. Pah to that.

sorry for being scathing, i’m currently on hold on the phone to telstra - hense my bad mood. What you’re doing sounds great, just don’t think that it is the only way for everyone to go.

why do you always disagree with everything I say? My opinions are based on romantic notions and feelings inside my body and so i cant defend them and would just prefer you to agree with them.

I think that it is great to be unique and different and to do random things - but this act of star gazing seems a bit contrived in that it sounds very cool and makes a great story to tell people. Now it could be that this is pure coincidence and that it just so happened that the random, oddball things that you do just are cool sounding, or it could be that how they sound has some influence on whether you do them. Perhaps you could test this - would you invite some of your friends to go into town with you on a saturday morning to go into a shop with you to gaze at new mobile phones and discuss their new features and what they could be used for? It doesn’t sound special or romantic but does this not have the same merit as looking at stars?

If this truly does annoy you then i can drop it, as i do fundementally support what you are saying - like most things that we discuss.
