Be Present

I have a lot of life philosophy’s. But if I had to narrow it all down to one it would be Carpe Diem.

The term comes from a greek text. Some dude is telling a young man: Don’t go trying to find out your future. Nobody has promised you a tomorrow. There is only today. Carpe Diem. Seize the day.

It reminds me of a passage from the Alchemist by Paulo Coelho: ‘I do not live in the future or the past, i am interested only in the present… Life is in the moment we are living right now.’

LIFE IS the moment we are living now. That is all it will ever be. That is all it ever has ever been. Just one moment. The present moment you are living now. Look around you. This is life. You are submerged in it. You are in the very middle of it. Today is the only real thing. Breath deeply in and out. Seize the day.

Tea cup! There is no future and there is no past. These are illusions. Fictions we create to help us understand the world we live in. Can you touch the future? Can you taste it, smell it, feel it? No. It is just a mental projection

Do not think of life as a long line and the present moment as a dot moving along it. Just think of life as a circle. A moment. This space. Presence. Now. This. Here. You. Me. Life. Everything inside the circle is everything that is happening to you now. This moment is the only real thing. Seize the day. Be present. Always.

The journey is the destination. If you always have your eyes on the horizon, you will never reach your destination because you will always be looking far off into the distance. Look down at your feet. You are HERE. The JOURNEY is the destination. Touch the grass. Feel the wind on your skin. Listen to the birds. Every second you breath, you are at your destination. You have arrived. Right now.

I’m not saying you cant have plans. I am writing a book. You have a career, dreams, destinations to arrive at. This is beautiful. But if you are driving to Mexico, don’t think about Mexico so much that you forget to wind down the window and feel the air rush around the inside of the car. Experience Mexico when you experience Mexico. But right now you are driving on the highway, so experience the highway. Live in the present moment. Be always grateful and easily delighted with simple things. These are the keys to happiness.

And “Happiness is the best thing in the world” - The Tin Woodman.

Be present. Live in the moment. Seize the day. Because all you have is today, the now, this, us, here. There is no future. Nobody has promised you a tomorrow. And if you are always thinking about tomorrow you will never experience today

“There’s only us, there’s only this, forget regret or life is yours to miss.

No other road, no other way, no day but today.” - Rent.

I’m sooo trying to live today, not yesterday, and not two years ahead.
It’s hard. Especially for someone who lives off memories, then projects into the future based on these memories.

I love that Rent song too, awesome.

And, I am so sorry that I never got to Newcastle. Life has only just stopped being an eternal storm of shit on my head.
    Now it is good :)
    Let us rejoice!
And, you, T and Luke are (the only ones other than my family) on my list to visit when I come to the Sunny Coast next, which is hopefully within the next month.
It’s entirely possible I may even bring my boyfriend *gasp* and you will get to meet him.
    I miss you incredibly.

This is SO good, and So true. I love all your theories Rhys- even if I don’t agree with them, because they make me think.

But this one I most centaintly agree with, and to remember that no one has actually promised us a tomorrow is really powerful.

Keep blogging hon, you are So talented. :-)
