Excuse me universe! Am so excited! Just completed the first edition of
‘My Teacup is so deep’ - my sexy sexy zine! yayayay!
Ok. So I recently sent my manuscript back to The Mentor. We have a few more edits to do before we send it off the publishers, but I want to get that thing OUT of my head so I can approach the next edit with a fresh perspective. Anyways, was in search of a new creative project to fill the gap. Have been writing the NEXT BOOK (which is fantastic) AND making this Zine.
Reasons I love Zines:
They are so fast to make. This baby only took me three days to put together, as apposed the the two years I have been writing and re-writing re-writing re-writing the novel! I want to get it photocopied tomorrow! in less than a week from starting, I can be distributing the zine amongst friends! how cool is that? Loves it.
Limited editing. My life has pretty been about editing editing editing lately, and I have to be so anal about it, analyzing every sentence to make sure I use the least words possible, active nouns leading, adverbs sparingly, texture, tone, pace. blah blah blah. For the zine I just raped my computer for snippets, poems, streams of consciousness, whatever. And just threw it in there. Yeah, I edited it. I dont hate my reader. But it was a relaxed sort of editing. If I wasn’t sure about something, i just left it in there. what does it matter? I liked that because it made the language more natural and real. not the super polished fakeness of a novel. a bit gritty. I like that.
Collage! I used drawings and cut up magazines and newspapers! It was as much a visual art project as a word art project. Love that element, visual art stuff has been so absent from my life for…ever.
Love it so much, I would love to incorporate some zineish elements into my next BOOK. espesh the visual element!

.
Also. Would like to announce: Am 90% definitely moving to BRISBANE next year. And in January I am doing a super exciting three week circus workshop! Which will be darling! Then I have to find a new job in a new city. Beginnings, love it. independence and freshness… good.
