5. Jac and the Wild Children
Brief: The story of Jacamoe, a curious boy born in the town of Morloch where children grow off trees and and are forced to work in button factory’s. The defective children, the wild ones, the ones that will not allow their souls to decompose are banished to a strange island. Watched over by the Rule Keeper and visited by pirates, all is not as peaceful as it seems.
This novel is a satirical comment on society. With themes of Spirituality, Consumerism and the Innocence of youth.
Style: Surrealistic young adults adventure fantasy.
Central Concept: Utopia sleeps in the hearts of children.
My Inspirations: Peter Pan, The Secret Garden, A picture book i read as a child and cant remember, The bible, Anne of Green Gables. And I drew the rhythm of the plot from Patricia Bernard’s The Outcast.
Sample: Although Mrs Smith was Jacamoe’s mother, it seems almost blasphemous to attribute this title to her. For as soon as she had carried Jacamoe home from the Kinder Garden she conducted herself oppositely to how a mother should. The first thing she did was to burn the clothes he had been wrapped in for fear that little spores of imagination would settle on the table tops and window sills in the room; and when she dusted on a Wednesday, they would float through the air and germinate in her mind, slowly growing into a maddening disease that would severely inhibit all social engagements. The second thing she did, was to dial the Scarlet Ladies Guild.
Status: 70,000 - 80,000 words. Final editing phases.
